ROLE
As Vice President of Transaction Tax, Garfield provides solutions to clients’ transaction tax challenges. He also provides strategic oversight, thought leadership, and business development efforts to the Transaction Tax practice at DMA. Garfield leads a team that plans, organizes, and oversees transaction tax reviews for major corporations, analyzes client data for use with DMA’s transaction tax automated review process, and files the necessary appeals. In addition, he negotiates with auditors regarding audit assessments and refunds, coordinates transaction tax research projects, and provides tax training to clients and colleagues.

30+ years in sales and use tax; 27 years with DMA
- Provides guidance and insight to Fortune 500 tax leaders, particularly in the oil & gas and petrochemical industries
- Works with both large and mid-size companies throughout the southwest on overpayment reviews and recovery projects
- Previously worked for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, where he performed audits of various industries such as manufacturing, construction, oil and gas exploration, retail, fast food franchises, health, and transportation
