Did you receive a letter saying you HAVE unclaimed funds?
This page will provide you with the reason for the letter that you received and who we are. DuCharme, McMillen & Associates, Inc. (DMA) is a tax consulting and technology firm that has been solving tax challenges for the world’s largest companies since 1972. We help individuals and businesses reclaim funds they may be entitled to.
Understanding Unclaimed Property and Your Letter
Unclaimed property encompasses a variety of assets, including unpaid wages, uncashed checks, outstanding credit balances, and more. Essentially, these are accounts that have remained dormant, with no owner activity or contact for a year or longer. You received a letter because our client(s) identified you as being entitled to unclaimed funds.
How does this apply to me?
It Could Be:
- A situation where you left your previous employer before they could issue your final wages or reimburse expenses. The funds are ready for payment but locating you has proven challenging.
- A scenario where you believed you had closed a bank account when you moved, only to discover remaining funds. The financial institution has been diligently trying to return these funds to you.
- Instances where checks or account credits issued to you were forgotten or misplaced.
- Circumstances where you were affected by a disaster, and your insurance company owes you money from a claim. However, they have had difficulty in locating you.
- A credit balance where you may have overpaid a vendor, or you paid a bill; and an insurance company or other entity paid on the same bill — leaving a credit balance owed to you.
If these unclaimed assets, for any reason, remain unclaimed or abandoned, companies are required to remit them to the state. Before taking this step, they must make diligent efforts to locate the rightful owners, which includes sending the due diligence letter you received.
What happens now?
