Program Overview

The Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) is a Canadian program delivered by FedDev Ontario to provide financial support to businesses in Southern Ontario impacted by tariff-related challenges. With $450 million committed nationally and approximately $160 million allocated to Ontario, the program targets critical industries such as steel and automotive. Funding is designed to help businesses adapt to shifting trade conditions by supporting innovation, diversification, and stronger supply chains.

Benefits

  • Access to financial assistance ranging from small, non-repayable grants under $100,000 to repayable contributions of $125,000–$10 million
  • Support for projects that enable businesses to innovate, diversify markets, and reduce dependency on vulnerable trade channels
  • Strengthened supply chains and improved resilience against ongoing tariff and trade pressures

Eligibility

  • Businesses located in Southern Ontario operating in sectors affected by tariff-related challenges (with emphasis on steel and automotive)
  • Projects must have a minimum total cost of $125,000
  • Funding recipients must be able to complete projects by March 31, 2028

Application Deadline and Timeline

  • The program was launched September 1, 2025, and is open immediately for applications
  • Funding is available over a three-year period, with all projects required to be completed by March 31, 2028
  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until program funds are fully allocated
