ROLE
James provides strategic oversight of, and thought leadership to, the Transaction Tax practice at DMA. He leads DMA’s western US Transaction Tax team that handles sales and use tax recovery reviews, audit defense projects, and transaction analyses for DMA’s Fortune 1000 clients. James also oversees DMA’s Tax Advisory Group, which performs strategic transaction tax consulting projects including nexus reviews, Voluntary Disclosure Agreement filings, and tax matrix creation in support of transaction tax automation projects, among other services. He regularly consults with client sales and uses tax professionals on the entire transaction tax lifecycle and develops proactive solutions to their challenges. James collaborates with all DMA client service teams to ensure clients maximize tax savings opportunities and tax administration processes.

- Facilitated the recovery of over $145 million in overpaid transaction taxes on behalf of his clients
- Performed thousands of sales & use tax reviews, provided audit defense, conducted Washington Business & Occupation tax analyses, and completed extensive research for clients in various industries
- Frequently works with state revenue departments on prospective exemptions and the resolution of tax disputes
- Worked for the Maricopa County Assessor’s Office prior to joining DMA
