Hawaii to Add More Surcharges

by DMA Staff | Sep 21, 2018
Since 2007, the state has had a .05% rate for the city and county of Honolulu. Effective January 1, 2019, the counties of Kauai and Hawaii will also impose a surcharge as well. The county of Kauai will have an additional 0.5% surcharge and Hawaii will have an additional 0.25% surcharge. As with Honolulu, the surcharges only apply to transactions taxed at the 4% rate, or in general, the retail rate.
